‘Creativity takes courage’ (Henri Matisse 1869-1954) is the welcome to the Pink Lady Art Exhibition and Charity Event website. TRUE! The inaugural event was held in October 2007 in the Melbourne’s bayside Brighton. $19,000 was raised for the Breast Cancer Network Australia and the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
In 2008, building on the 2007 success, this wonderful community event will run over two days. There has been strong support from sponsors and donors and organisers are looking forward to a bigger and better event in 2008, and have set a goal of $50,000.
Rachel West and Lisa Sewards know first hand of the impact of being diagnosed with breast cancer. Both are survivors of the disease and they have joined forces with Emma Callil to give back and help raise awareness and give hope for the future to find a cure.
Since being diagnosed in 2005, Lisa with her young son Harrison, have authored and illustrated the highly regarded book, “My Mum Has Breast Cancer” – A Family’s Journey. Lisa focuses her time on becoming a professional artist, doing what she truly loves.
Rachel, was diagnosed in 2006 and since she finished treatment she started running and has entered into various fun runs including the Melbourne Half Marathon in October last year, she’s setting her sights on it again this year.
Rachel is married to Gary, and they have a daughter Sienna, who is 3 ½ years old.
This recently published book provides families a guide and opens areas of discussion about cancer, its treatments and the heroes who work in the medical field such as a Surgeon, Medical Oncologist and Nurses.
Lisa Sewards has written her story assisted by her son Harrison now 9. The story is supported with drawings also by Harrison and some illustrations by his Nana, Lisa’s mother.
The book aims to assist parents and carers in explaining the breast cancer journey to their children in an informative and entertaining way. It offers explanations of tricky medical terms, cancer treatments, medical personnel and helpful hints for family and friends.
Available from all good book stores there’s also a picturebook suitable for 3 to 10 year olds, RRP$16.95.
This is an opportunity to buy some fantastic and affordable art by professional and emerging artists and know you are donating to a great cause.
There will be live music and kids will be busy with activities galore, including a visit from The Wiggles very own, Dorothy the Dinosaur, and Ralph the Grosby Dog. There will also be guest speakers, food, beverages and a Major Raffle.
