Recently launched, with the idea of promoting local food, is a website where people can search for food within a certain vicinity.
The interest in local food really seems to be growing – whether for health, community support, or environmental ‘transition town‘ type reasons.
Are you changing your approach to what you put in your mouth?
Gippslanders Rosemary and Gordon Rouse are running their Local Food Map website on a non-profit basis. The service is available free.
Food growers can sign up and list their eggs, fruit, vegies, etc, which are displayed on the map with the icon of their choice.
An excellent feature of Local Food Map is that customers can ‘subscribe’ to a particular food grower, to receive emails when fruit is in season ready for picking, for example, or when a sheep has been slaughtered.
If preferred, food growers can provide their contact details to Rosemary via email rosemary_os@hotmail.com and these details will be entered and an icon chosen on their behalf.
