Connecting Up Australia has provided a short list of South Australian Farmers’ Markets in their SA Community e-news and they’re asking for info about about Community Kitchens in SA.

Connecting Up provides community services and events information and is a national voice for the nonprofit sector on information and communications technology (ICT) issues.

Info About Community Kitchens

Community Kitchens are described as building

“a sense of community around food. Participants come together on a regular basis to socialise and cook affordable and nutritious meals. They then sit down to share the meal or divide it up for each person to take home (or both).

Through buying and cooking in bulk, many kitchens are able to produce meals at a lower cost than individuals who cook at home for themselves. Members of community kitchens make new friends and learn new skills. At the same time they are able to save time and money and enjoy healthy meals.”

Community Kitchens are operating in many parts of Australia and the Australian Community Kitchens website offers organisations and groups information on how to set up a community kitchen and they have a DVD and manual with more details for sale.
