Voters are being asked to contact their federal MPs about the next Australian government making regular bowel cancer screening free for all Australians over 50.

5 million people are missing out on a potentially life-saving test – no more delays and vague promises, it’s time to commit to saving 30 lives a week by 2012.

Some Facts About Bowel Cancer

  • Bowel cancer is an avoidable human tragedy – it is the second most common cause of cancer-related death in Australia yet nearly all cases can be cured if found early
  • It has been 13 years since the Government had conclusive evidence of the potential bowel screening offers in saving lives?
  • It has been 6 years since both parties campaigned on a commitment to phase in bowel screening?

Contact Details For MPs Around Australia

You can call in office hours and speak to a staffer or outside office hours and leave a message. Both are effective and both get the message across that bowel screening deserves attention.

Professor Ian Olver, CEO Cancer Council of Australia, says

“We are running out of time to ensure tackling Australia’s second biggest cancer killer is on the agenda. Let’s show all parties there is overwhelming support for a strong commitment to save lives from bowel cancer. Call your MP and make your voice heard.”
