The Federal Minister for Small Business and Tourism, Fran Bailey said the project will establish:
(i) a detailed program with guided tours of tourism ‘must sees’
(ii) a no-frills self-drive tour for people wanting to travel at their own pace.
The project will encourage first-timers to set out on their own Australian journey at a time when hiring a caravan and setting out on a great Australian safari is becoming increasingly popular for families, retirees and tourists from around the globe.
Road-based touring is one of the fastest growing markets in Australian tourism and the Government has committed to developing a National Road Tourism Strategy with a focus on the camping and caravanning sectors. The strategy will investigate the synergies of themed routes, for example, North Queensland’s Great Green Way and the Top End’s Savannah Way.
