International students will be ‘heartened’ by the win in a recent legal battle in NSW, reported by The Age. The Administrative Decisions Tribunal in Sydney found the state’s 20,000 overseas students were being discriminated against by being refused travel concession cards.
South of the border in Victoria there is no word as to whether a similar legal bid is underway. Union leaders have been waging a fruitless campaign to win public transport concessions for international, postgraduate and part-time students.
